About
This ethics class teaches practitioners how to read the behavior of a client’s nervous system in real time. Through the lens of neurological regulation and trauma expression, students learn how protective patterns, freeze states, and behavioral cues manifest in clinical interactions. Emphasis is placed on client interviewing, consent, and boundary setting informed by somatic observation beyond words. The course explores how trauma is held within the body and communicated through muscle tone and posture, offering a framework for respectful, attuned engagement that supports therapeutic safety. It also teaches how to dynamically adjust the power balance in the therapeutic space by reading the client's nervous system. Practitioners learn when to yield control to help a client feel safe and empowered, and when to hold firmer therapeutic structure to create safety through leadership, depending on the needs of the session.
